Villupuram is one of the 38 districts that make up the state of Tamil Nadu, India. The district is situated in the northern part of Tamil Nadu and it is close to the state capital, Chennai. The population is estimated to be about 2 million. The economy of Villupuram is predominantly agriculture and related activities. As the rivers in the district are not perennial, the major sources of irrigation are tube wells and open dug wells.
